2014 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG Coming in November

2014 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG 4MATIC

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG ¬†was recently revealed boasting more firepower, less weight and greater overall efficiency than its predecessor. The newest AMG offering elevates the automaker’s flagship sedan to a whole new level of performance.

The heart of the 2014 S63 AMG 4Matic is the latest and most potent version of the AMG M157 5.5-liter twin-turbo/direct-injected V8, here tuned to make 577 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of peak torque. Backed by an AMG Speed Shift 7-speed automatic transmission with Controlled Efficiency/Sport/Manual modes, this hand-built jewel ships its power to the tires via a performance-biased AMG 4Matic all-wheel-drive system.

Collectively that combo can send the S63 AMG streaking from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 186 mph. Mercedes promises this even-more-formidable V8 will also deliver better fuel economy, abetted by M-B’s ECO Start/Stop system.

On the exterior, the 2014 S63 AMG gets a number of subtle exterior enhancements highlighted by a bigger, bolder front splitter, distinctive grille/rear-diffuser treatments, various accent elements and model-specific AMG badging. In base trim, the fender wells are filled by 19-inch AMG light-alloy wheels wrapped in 225/40 front and 285/35 rear tires, but 20-inch AMG ultra-lightweight rims matched with lower-profile 225/35 and 285/30 rubber are optional.

Inside the S63 displays an equally comprehensive array of AMG-design accoutrements, from its bespoke steering wheel and unique instrument cluster to Nappa-leather-clad AMG sport seats with appropriate AMG indicia and carbon fiber trim.

Underpinning the new S63 is an AMG-developed sports suspension that augments the basic Airmatic package with the ADS Plus Adaptive Damping System that offers Comfort and Sport modes available at the touch of a button. The car’s more tautly tuned chassis is complemented by bespoke electromechanical AMG speed-sensitive variable-ratio sports steering gear, while its ESP stability system now features Curve Dynamic Assist that adds a new degree of confidence and agility during at-the-limit high-speed cornering. On the safety front, the new S63 AMG will expand on the bounty of active and passive systems found on the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S550 by including the Driver Assistance Package and Night View Assist Plus in its roster of standards.

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG is scheduled to arrive in the showrooms of Mercedes-Benz dealers this November.
